In partnership with ALL PONO, the Lonnie Winston Memorial Scholarship was established in 2023 to honor the life, legacy, and community impact of Lonnie Winston, whose passion for athletics, mentorship, and personal excellence touched the lives of many.
Lonnie began his professional career at Southeastern Community College in 1989 where he served in multiple student-focused roles and became head coach of the SCC Blackhawk baseball program in 1992. Over 13 years, he mentored more than 250 players, led the program to NJCAA regional & national appearances, as well as the honor of 1994 Coach of the Year; leaving a legacy of leadership on and off the field.
Today, the scholarship continues Lonnie’s commitment to helping student-athletes pursue their education, develop as leaders, and achieve excellence in their academic, athletic, and personal lives by awarding $5,000 in total scholarship distributions to three (3) young men annually. It is through community events, donor support, and volunteer engagement, that the Lonnie Winston Memorial Scholarship can invest in student-athletes who reflect the values Lonnie lived every day: perseverance, integrity, gratitude, and service.
